JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing a variety of information on agriculture, forestry, and natural resources to county residents.
MAJOR DUTIES:
o Plans, coordinates, and evaluates Family and Consumer Science programs, including programs for adults, 4-H, and youth.
o Plans and implements 4-H leadership activities, including retreats, banquets, classes, and district competitions.
o Develops curricula for 4-H and youth programs.
o Writes grant applications and administers grant monies.
o Assists other agencies and community groups in implementing health-related programs.
o Seeks publicity for programs through the use of newspaper, radio, and other media.
o Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
o Knowledge of state and county policies and procedures, including the directives governing the provision of county extension services.
o Knowledge of parenting, food and nutrition, safety, sanitation, clothing and textiles, wellness, housing, financial management, and consumer education.
o Knowledge of 4-H programs and policy initiatives.
o Skill in public and interpersonal relations.
o Skill in operating such office equipment as a computer and typewriter.
o Skill in verbal and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Extension Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions. Work is reviewed for the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include state and county policies and procedures, United States Department of Agriculture and Food and Drug Administration regulations, and professional standards for the delivery of extension services. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: This position consists of varied tasks in program planning and problem solving. The variety of subject areas contributes to the complexity of the work.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to provide resource information to county citizens. Successful performance helps ensure that extension programs meet local needs, which enhances the quality of life for area citizens.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, other county agents, state extension personnel, homeowners, program participants, and service recipients.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give and exchange information, resolve problems, motivate personnel, and provide educational services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office, classroom, or meeting rooms. The employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, and irritating chemicals. The use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves may be required.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position has direct supervision over Program Assistant (1).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
o Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to occupational field.
o Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service.
o Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver=s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
