Called Meeting

The Hart County Board of Commissioner had a called meeting May 4, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. in the Hart County Administrative & Emergency Services Center.

 

Chairman Joel Moore presided with Commissioners Ken Brown, Don Burdick, Harry Hannah and R C Oglesby in attendance.

 

Chairman Moore called the meeting to order and explained the purpose of the called meeting is to discuss legislative amendments to the Open and Public  Meetings Act.

 

Chairman Moore turned the meeting over to County Attorney Walter Gordon to explain the changes.

 

Attorney Gordon explained the amendments to the Open & Public Meetings Act. Mr. Gordon said the amendments to the law are effective July 1, 1999, however he suggested the board consider following the process immediately.

 

Commissioner Brown and Commissioner Oglesby asked if the board has a called meeting can items that are not on the agenda be discussed.

 

Attorney Gordon stated the new section of the law is not an abridgement to what can be discussed. He added items not on the agenda can be discussed if necessary but an agenda should be set as far in advance as reasonably possible.

 

Chairman Moore stated there are times the board needs to be informed of various items that are not on the agenda which come up at the last minute.

 

Chairman Moore reminded the board members to submit names for an over-site committee for the fire department’s ISO requirements. He also asked the board to submit names for the Recreation Park Expansion Advisory Committee.

 

Chairman Moore announced a tentative called meeting is scheduled May 10, 1999 at 3:00 p.m. to discuss Tribble & Richardson Engineering Firm contract renewal.

 

Chairman Moore stated a budget amendment for the Road Department would be ready for consideration at the next meeting. He said this will be necessary in able to allow the purchase of a lowboy trailer.

 

Chairman Moore suggested the board move ahead with the FY2000 budget.

 

Chairman Moore entered a motion the meeting adjourn. Commissioner Brown provided a second to the motion. The motion carried unanimously.
