Hart County Board of Commissioners

May 10th, 2005

Work Session

7:30 p.m.

The Hart County Board of Commissioners met May 10th, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hart County Administrative & Emergency Services Center to discuss Little League and Recreation.

Chairman R C Oglesby presided with Commissioners Daniel Reyen, Gary Mize, Ricky Carter and Joey Dorsey in attendance.

Several recent issues were discussed including:

  • Sponsorship of Little League- Little League was advised that some sponsors were complaining to the Hart County Board of Commissioners that they were not receiving a reply on their sponsorship.  The Little League said they would contact the sponsors.
  • The question of what the Little League contributes financially to offset the costs of the Hart County Recreation Department in supporting the program.
  • Discussion of Coaches fees not being returned.
  • Scheduling conflicts with Adult softball

The Hart County Board of Commissioners agreed that the Recreation Advisory Board and the Little League Board need to get together in the next two weeks to present the BOC with a draft agreement for review for the June 28th, 2005 meeting that addresses the relationship and requirements of Little League and the Hart County Board of Commissioners.

Recreation Director Lawanda Curry stated that the word needs to get out that the Hart County Board of Commissioners is not responsible for managing the operations of the Little League.  She pointed out the Recreation Department spends money on preparing and hosting the Little League but receives no revenue.

A brief discussion also took place on the new recreation park.  Recreation Advisory Board Chairman Lenford Smith reminded the audience that a Citizens Committee was formed 5 years ago to decide what would be included in the new recreation park.

With no further action the meeting adjourned.
