Planning Session
Attendance: Chairman Joel Moore, Commissioners Ken Brown, Don Burdick, R. C. Oglesby. Absent: Commissioner Harry Hannah.
Chairman Moore called the meeting
to order at
Chairman Moore distributed a
memorandum to the commissioners outlining LARP guidelines and requested the
commissioners provide a list of roads needing resurfacing under the LARP
project. The intent is to develop a long-range Master Plan for
Chairman Moore reminded the commissioners of upcoming conference meeting dates.
The issue of inmate meals, as mentioned in the Grand Jury Report, was discussed. It was suggested that Whitworth Detention Facility could be a source to provide inmate meals.
County Administrator Gary Cobb discussed the Army Corp of Engineers decision not to allow barge operators to use their ramps. This lead to a discussion of the three county owned ramps and in particular, the Rocky Ford Ramp. It was decided the Rocky Ford ramp should be temporally closed until cost estimates, water level, etc were available for the necessary repairs.
Mildred (Pudge) Smith’s term on
Ninth District board expires the end of August. The
Charlene Hulme addressed the commissioners concerning the Freedom Heights Subdivision. A letter dropping their lawsuit was given to the commissioners. Discussion centered on the minimum lot requirements for on-site sewage and in particular how the minimum lot size is determined. It was decided to ask Gary Helmuth to attend the next planning meeting to discuss the new regulations.
Hartwell City Council members Matt Beasley and Sarah Mayfield addressed the commissioners requesting the county’s participation in the Habel project. The city requested that the county provide hauling, spreading gravel and asphalt. Considerable discussion followed. Several citizens were present in support of the project. No commitments were made except to consider the request. Mr. Beasley was asked to verify the extent of the county’s participation would be limited to that as described.
