The Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter was established in 1998 to shelter lost and homeless animals in Hart and Franklin Counties. The Shelter is a non-profit organization supported by private donations and by funds from the following eight city and county jurisdictions that are served by the Shelter:

Franklin County
Hart County
City of Lavonia
City of Hartwell
City of Franklin Springs
City of Royston
City of Canon
City of Carnesville
